I’m too old to change and anyway this is the best job I ever had without comparison. To become a full-time translator was my big career change some 30 years ago and I have never looked back since. Would I change again? No, definitely not, thank you! I must add though that the road to get where I am now has been long and sometimes quite bumpy...
Happy in this job, doing what I like. No reason to change. | | | EvaVer (X) Local time: 01:56 Czech to French + ...

I did not fit in anywhere else when I started with them five years earlier, but they turned me from a hopeless amateur into a professional, and set me up for the rest of my working life. I'm not planning on stopping entirely - old translators don't die, they just move into the Tower of Babel. However, there is a life beyond translating, and pensioners have other duties too!
I'm happy. It's too late anyway. Not planning on retiring until I go blind or something like that. | | | Marc Cordes Poland Local time: 01:56 English to German + ...

This job really helps me a lot. Not tied up by any company, I can work any where, good money, I can make new income by new job based the fund from translation, I can buy cool things from eBay and Amazon. I am the only one freelance translator in my town. But, I could become full time translator for company in order to have more experience or working in embassy. I am kind a workaholic but I also freelancing and of course travelling. | | | No and I will not retire | Jul 5, 2017 |
I have decided not to retire (until my brain will allow me to), I could work less hours for less clients but no retirement

I did the exact opposite. I had a different career for 20 years, and considered translation as an extra during that time. In 2013, I quit the other career and dedicated myself to translation full time. My lfe improved in all aspects, and I regretted not doing it a lot earlier. Changing careers now doesn't even appear in the furthest point of my horizon. | | | Paul Adie (X) Germany Spanish to English + ...

Being a freelance translator does not make money and can be quite isolating. I have no scheme to support me if I get ill and feel very vulnerable as a result. My next move is to look after myself as I did not have a personal life, didn't get out and socialise for a long time due to the ruthlessness of this job when I compare myself to employees who have their health, work condition, pension, holiday pay... looked after for them. I aim to go part time as I do love my job intrinsically... See more Being a freelance translator does not make money and can be quite isolating. I aim to go part time as I do love my job intrinsically speaking, but socially and as far as health and need to get myself some sort of pension is concerned, I will find myself another part time more secure job on the side, maybe starting with some training in a social care capacity... ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Are you planning a career change, out of translation?
