Source text - English On 23 December 2004, the BoS increased the currency repurchase rate by 0.25 percentage point making it currently set at 1.25%. On 29 December 2004, it further on reduced interest rates for
redemption of securities from 4.25% to 4.10%. By doing so, it is structurally adjusting the interest rates of the monetary policy instruments to ensure the continued money market stability. Other interest rates of BoS’ key instruments remain stable; this includes the ECB refinancing rate which has been at 2.0% since June 2003.
Recent estimates show that, in comparison with the same period last year, the economic growth in the third quarter was 1.8% in the Eurozone, 2.1% in the EU(25), and 4.0% in the United States. The economic activity remains relatively high, despite the slightly lower rate of economic growth as to the previous quarter. The oil price in November dropped on average by 13% which slightly reduced the inflation in the Eurozone. The Eurozone’s annual inflation rate in November amounted to 2.2% which is 0.2 percentage point less than in October. However, the inflation rate is still exceeding the MTO ceiling, set at 2.0%. The U.S. inflation rate increased by 0.2 percent point in November and is currently amounted at 3.5%. In December, the U.S. FED once again increased its key interest rate by 0.25 percent point which is now set at 2.25%. The euro exchange rate continues to grow and stood at over USD 1.35 at the end of December.
Current indicators show that the economic growth in the last quarter is slightly slowing. In October, the interannual industrial production growth rate in one working day was lower than the previous year and was totaling at -3.0% (negative), thus leading to a halt of the high industry sector growth.
