A new Blue Board Applications system has been released. This system allows outsourcers to accept applications from ProZ.com members that meet the outsourcers required qualifications.

Details:

* Outsourcers who have a Blue Board record affiliated with their account may start to accept applications by setting their preferences in the "Application Preferences" tab in the Outsourcer Control Center.

* Outsourcers may choose to restrict who can apply by language pair(s), native language(s), working/speciality discipline(s), and country of residence.

* Outsourcers can view applications sent to them by clicking the "Applications Received" tab in the Outsourcer Control Center.

* Outsourcers have the ability to accept or reject applications, and optionally send an e-mail to the applicant.

* Outsourcers may add applicants to a group mail for fast contact amongst the selected applicants.

* Site members may view a list of outsourcers that they can apply to by clicking the "Apply Now" tab under the Applications section of the Blue Board.

* Site members are able to send an unlimited number of applications per month (you must wait 90 days before sending an application to an outsourcer that you already applied to)

* Site members may view the applications they have already sent by clicking the "Applications Sent" tab in the Applications section of the Blue Board. The application appears exactly the way it does to the outsourcer

* Site members may automatically submit information from their ProZ.com profile such as KudoZ points, ProZ.com Project History(SM), phone number and more.

This new set of features will allow ProZ.com site Members to actively go out and seek new clients. This ultimately leads to less work for the outsourcer, and more potential clients for ProZ.com members.

Outsourcers may start accepting applications by visiting http://www.proz.com/?sp=jobs&sp_mode=occ&sp_mode_occ=app_prefs, the Application Preferences page, and setting up their preferences for receiving applications.

Members may see outsourcers that they can apply to by visiting the Apply now tab in the Blue Board Applications section.

As always, member input is requested and welcomed.

Very interesting indeed Jan 21, 2006

Hi! Justin,

I thought a country sort may be useful, for a translator supporting a pair of languages and a few fields of specialization. This way one could selectively send an application to all outsourcers in a given region supporting same set of fields of specialization. This I think would have a more potential use to a translating professional. Best regards, Brandis

Great news! Jan 21, 2006

This is indeed a very timesaving feature! Whenever I think about "doing some marketing" I often look through the BB to select some good agencies, but till now only company address has been shown, occasionally a link to a website (which doesn't work a lot of times) and besides just taking a note about the name of the agency I've more or less given up on going through BB for marketing purposes.

This improvement has been on my wish-list for a while. Thanks ProZ for making wishes come

So far no good Jan 23, 2006

Hi Justin,

The idea is more than welcome. Another similar site already uses it and it is very practical. A good feature that Proz was missing.
However, there are no outsourcers to apply to. Records seem empty. So.....?
So far no good. Hope it improves.
Best,
Walter

Give outsourcers a moment to change their settings... Jan 23, 2006

Hi Walter,

* Outsourcers who have a Blue Board record affiliated with their account may start to accept applications by setting their preferences in the "Application Preferences" tab in the Outsourcer Control Center.

Give us a day or two to change settings...

Best regards,
Ralf

There seems to be a glitch somewhere Jan 31, 2006

Hello,

I have just had a look and have already got a few outsourcers listed but when I click on 'Apply now', the new page shows the following message: "You do not meet the criteria for submitting an application to this outsourcer." But then, if this is the case, why do they appear in my list in the first place?

Thank you,
Mitsuko

Hi Mitsuko,

How did you do to see some outsourcers listed? I don`t see any, except for Proz, which is just testing.

Maybe they are still working on that and the stuff is on and off. I don`t know.

Outsourcers should appear under the Proz entry Jan 31, 2006

Hi Walter,

Your outsourcers should appear in the same list just under the Proz entry used for test purposes.

I would suspect that no outsourcers (applying criteria that correspond to your translator profile) have got round yet to using this feature.

I am sure they will appear soon!

Same for me, have 2 outsourcers listed (apart from the Proz testing) but whenever clicked, I also get this same message ...

Small bug in the Applications feature, everything should be working properly now Jan 31, 2006

Hi all,

There was a small bug in the Applications code that was not correctly checking a certain restriction for applying. The bug has been fixed and everything should be working properly now.

Thank you all very much for pointing this out!!

Best Regards,
Justin

There is currently no outsourcers accepting applications from you (but soon there will be) Jan 31, 2006

Hi Walter,

Yes you are correct, there is currently no outsourcers accepting applications for your current quilifications.

Notifications are active though, so as outsourcers start accepting applications that you meet the qualifications for, you will be notified with a link to apply

So hang in there, you should notice a lot more outsourcers using the Applications feature in the next week or so.

E-mail notifications Jan 31, 2006

I have just received e-mail notification about the outsourcer whose requirements for applying I meet (and I am able to apply by clicking on direct link in that e-mail). But when I click my Applications tab, it looks like nobody's listed there except for ProZ.
