Spanish term

SSN

Spanish to English Other Military / Defense México: Military Title
The abbreviation or acronym is used over the signature of two officials of a Mexican Navy medical facility (see below). I have checked the more obvious possibillities but find no support for them in this context.

"1 ER.MAESTRE.SSN.MIP"
and
"DIRECTOR ACC TTE.NAV.SSN.MC."

Thanks in advance for any help.

The bottom line is, Gerard, that we all end up with a lot of new, enriching information, and that is priceless. Thank you for your kind comments :)
Gerard Burns Jr. (asker) Jul 13, 2006:
Closing query: I sincerely thank Susana and Diana for trying to help. In this case, I found out from colleagues elsewhere that SSN in this context refers to "Servicio de Sanidad Naval", as can be seen at:

This does not lessen my gratitude for your help.
Diana Arbiser Jul 12, 2006:
Yes, what you suggest is totally logic, and I also had my doubts about the Submarine thing, but I couldn't find anything related to "Servicio de Salud Nacional" (the same words popped in my head) as an acronym used in the military medical.
Gerard Burns Jr. (asker) Jul 12, 2006:
Website confirms "SSN" is military medical, but not meaning: http://dgces.salud.gob.mx/incentivos/faq.php
Gerard Burns Jr. (asker) Jul 12, 2006:
Both are officers of the Navy of Mexico, and are at a medical facility on land. Submarines would not be mentioned in a person's signature line, and I'm pretty sure Mexico doesn't have a nuclear submarine. I think it is more likely to be health-related, such as "servicio de salud naval", but cannot find any confirmation. There is a "Servicio de Salud Nacional" in Mexico, but cannot find evidence that it is a designation a military officer would use.

I am not very sure, though, but it sounds logical (although it means that the signatures in Spanish use the English abbreviation).
