This is a follow-on to the my previous question about the "rubro de intermediación financiera". A change was made to exclude that category in the calculation of the fiscal deficit. The document then says:
El cambio en la cobertura se justifica en virtud de que ahora las instituciones de banca de desarrollo se canalizan la mayor parte de su crédito a través de operaciones de segundo piso.
Does cobertura in this instance refer to the category or to something else? Thanks!

Not sure what the document is about, but "cobertura" is the standard Spanish term for "hedging". Also, could "segundo piso" be "mezzanine"?

| John: Thanks for taking a stab at this. In this context --macro economic policy in Mexico-- hedging and hedge funds don't apply. "Segundo piso" is a banking term usually translated as second tier or (as Alfredo has translated it) second level. It is a type of bank. I thought it means "retail" bank but in the Kudoz glossary, someone has glossed it as "wholesale". Not my field, so somebody else is going to have to clear that up! |
