Any idea what this means?

A customer of a bank has a fixed deposit.
She wants a loan against the deposit.
The bank verifies the existence of the deposit,its title,and whether any lien/encumberance is subsisting
The bank obtains a discharge of the depositor on the reverse of the deposit receipt.
The bank obtains a letter of lien signed by the customer.
The bank marks a lien on the deposit to secure the loan.
