Pathology report
The following appears in one of a series of pathology reports for radical prostatectomy and lymphadenectomy in a patient with suspected prostate cancer:
DIAGNOSTICO:
LINFADENECTOMÍA ILIO-OBTURATRIZ DERECHA:
- 14 GANGLIOS LINFÁTICOS AISLADOS SIN EVIDENCIA DE INFILTRACIÓN TUMORAL.
DATOS CLINICOS:
...
...
Procidimiento: PRL + LIOB extendido.
Total de muestras: 2 LIO d.
There is no later specific identification regarding the lymph nodes dissected.
My question is, could "linfadenectomia ilio-obturatriz" be used to indicate [extended] pelvic lymphadenectomy (pelvic lymph node dissection) rather than [extended] ilio-obturator lymphadenectomy (ilio-obturator lymph node dissection?
Note that in a similar report "LVOB" is used instead of "LIOB", which I have assumed is a misspelling.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Cheers, John.

Additionally, due to high rates of morbidity associated with lymph node dissection in the groin, minimally invasive techniques for inguinofemoral and iliac/obturator lymph node dissections have emerged; these have proven to be safe and effective modifications to the classic, open approach.

: "Iliac obturator" 20,000 hits. "ilio-obturator" 3,000 hits (or with "lymph node" 2,200 cf. 700). I was actually going to put this in the first place, but thought better of it. It seems clear to me "ilio" - of the "ilion" = ilium = iliac.

: Yes, stay with the text. There is debate regarding the optimal extent of lymphadenotomy in prostate cancer --> We cannot tell which nodes, beyond the iliac/obturator group, were removed in this "extended LIO" (most likely not the entire "pelvic nodes").

I don't follow your reasoning Liz.
You seem to say that "ilio" relates to "ilion", which is the "ilium" in English, and "iliac" means of or relating to the "ilium" - so why not "iliac"? The reference above seems pretty clear to me.
