Spanish term

medida de acceso

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy university skills
This is a paper on "transversal" student skills and their value in the wider world.
The term "medida de acceso" is ambiguous to me.
Can anyone bring some clarity, please?
Many thanks

"Sin embargo, no existe relación entre [la habilidad] y acceso a la universidad. Esta ausencia de relación puede ser debida al hecho de que el nivel de la habilidad medida en el comienzo del curso es más bien bajo respecto a los baremos de referencia de la prueba; además, a pesar de un aumento en el nivel, es aún moderado como para poder captar la relación que debería existir con la medida de acceso."

Discussion

Vuka Mijuskovic Oct 28, 2022:
medida de acceso in a context implying correlation with some other variance rarely means the entry-level knowledge comparison to knowledge obtained through study

Thanks Neil Thanks very much Neil. I have a whole range of options for transversal and generally try to use one of those before resorting to transversal: core, common, cross-discipline, cross-company, multi-faceted, cross-department, company-wide, group-wide, shared, cross-curricular, inter-departmental, interconnecting, cross-cutting, across all areas, coordinated...

Transversal I usually have no qualms about using 'transversal' when talking about skills. One of the main alternatives usually appears in quotes as well ('crosscutting' skills). I usually end up using one of these or maybe 'crossover skills'. As for the 'medida de acceso", it might mean the enrolment rate, but it could also mean the access level (of knowledge/skills etc.) upon entry as compared to the level achieved after a period of study.

enrollment rate

[gross/net] enrollment rate/tasa de matriculación is the primary among the metrics of access to higher education

extent of access

> in the sense of level of access to higher education (..y acceso a la universidad), rather than an access criterion or condition. The translation of 'medida' is omitted in the first example sentence, but doesn#t mean an 'access arrangement' (measure) here.

Transversal could merit a separate question, but 'lateral skills' besides crossover ones are what occurred to me.

Example sentence:

La medida de acceso a fuentes de prueba en la nueva acción de reclamación de daños por ilícitos antitrust > Access to sources of evidence in the new legal action to claim remedies arisng out of infringements of competition law

The study looks into the past two decades to map and analyze the global access to higher education (HE) and the main trends it involves.
