English term

S/down

English Other Petroleum Eng/Sci Abbreviation used in an emergency management course for workers of the petroleum industry
Hi everybody.
In the comments on person’s performance in an emergency management course, I have the following:

“John made good use of the initial limited information and gained an accurate understanding of the incident. Process S/down & ESD carried out at IC's request.”
I understand that

IC = Instructor Coordinator, and
ESD = Emergency Services Department
But,
What does “S/down” stand for?

Many thanks in advance,
Manuel

I think you got the right expressions at the end. :-)

My apologies to all for posting in Spanish - only just realised this was Eng-mono - late night ku-dozing... I'd like to explain that the added notes were posted in order to re-direct Manuel towards 'process shutdown' and clarify ESD. Cheers. :O) :O)
Manuel Cedeño Berrueta (asker) Jan 28, 2007:
You are absolutely right, juvera. I realized of that when I read Álvaro’s answer.
Now I have expanded/translated the phrase as “process shutdown and emergency shutdown carried out at the Instructor/Coordinator’s request”.
juvera Jan 28, 2007:
You don't "carry out Emerg. Services Department". ESD is much more likely to be something else, like electrostatic discharge.

prueba (shakedown?)

Hola Manuel,

shutdown

"Shutdown" is a possibility - he was handling an "incident" (something sent wrong?) and maybe the process had to be shut down. "Slowdown" is another possibility, but if I were too guess, I would go for "shutdown" in this context.
Note from asker:
Thank you, Chris. I have used this option, but I’m going to choose Álvaro’s answer because he gave me the references that clarified this matter to me.
