Hi,
I think I can grasp the general meaning of “engagement” at the end of the following passage, but I can’t express it fully.
Thank you very much for your help!
*******************************
Eric is a brilliant young man who saw great success in college as well, graduating and immedi¬ately landing a coveted, high-paying job; yet, he talked about feeling lost in terms of knowing who he really is, and a sense of purpose in life has eluded him thus far.
Again, there's nothing at all wrong with the "success" Eric attained. We're not campaigning against focused work, good study habits, or elite colleges. We are, however, saying that academic and career accomplishments represent only part of a definition of success, a narrow version that can be attained without ever developing authentic happiness and ** meaningful engagement in life **.

A meaningful way of living one's life
I'd say it means living one's life in a way that gives one a sense of purpose, of being significant or important in some way. Of making a difference to others and/or oneself. Living actively not passively.
