English term

as an important qualification

English Art/Literary Religion About the book of Proverbs
Pr 10:22
This verse stands at the center of vv. 12–32 ***as an important qualification***, relating to both the source and the nature of one’s wealth. If it is the blessing of the Lord that makes rich (see also v. 4), then how one seeks wealth (e.g., vv. 4b, 15a) is necessarily governed by a commitment to act righteously, and always to manifest a hope that rests not in material things but in the Lord who provides (see vv. 23–30). he adds no sorrow with it. When the Lord gives material blessing, he does not give it grudgingly or with condemnation but freely and with joy.

Discussion

Jonathan MacKerron Mar 2, 2016:
= the verse was placed there to purposely "qualify" (more exactly characterize) the passages that come later
Ana Juliá (asker) Mar 2, 2016:
Proverbs 10.22: The blessing of the Lord makes rich,
and he adds no sorrow with it.

the conditon or requirement is set out (stipulated or specified) and must be met

Here it is about always remaining "righteous" if seeking wealth ("how one seeks wealth ...is necessarily governed by a commitment to act righteously")
and to be aware that true wealth is granted by God ("blessing of the Lord that makes rich")

an important explanation/further amplification

An "add on" to what a person knows (or ought to know) about the source and nature of his/her wealth

A qualifying statement

disagree Yasutomo Kanazawa : Explanation/further amplification has nothing to do with Lord's giving wealth to people.

as an important must-have condition/ability

Wealth is Lord's will, and in order to achieve this, one must have have the ability to do so by acting in virtue or morality, and to show hope not in the material things but in the Lord because He provides them to you without reluctance but freely and joy.

Must be grateful to the Lord because He is giving you all the wealth and the material things.
Peer comment(s):

disagree AllegroTrans : "must-have condition" and "ability" in no way explain this, and your explanation is hardly grammatical
