French term

estime de l'entourage

French to English Social Sciences Medical: Health Care Prevention of mental health problems in the workplace
This is a guide to formulating a strategic approach to preventing work-related mental health problems. On one page there is a grid for risk factors. One of the headings is "Reconnaissance/estime de l'entourage" under which a list of statements appears, e.g." "Je reçois le respect que je mérite de mon supérieur immédiat", "Je reçois le respect que je mérite de mes collègues", etc.

Looking for a short, economical way to translate "estime de l'entourage".

TIA

Discussion

SJLD Apr 23, 2011:
peer in English means someone of equal rank - your superior is not your peer

Any online dictionary:
peer 2 (pîr)
n.
1. A person who has equal standing with another or others, as in rank, class, or age:
CFournier Apr 23, 2011:

SJLD Apr 23, 2011:
not in the workplace
Drmanu49 Apr 22, 2011:
SJLD Apr 19, 2011:
why peers? Doesn't "l'entourage" mean all the people the person comes into contact with? Surely these are not all peers. Is "mon supérieur immédiat" a "peer"?

Thank you.
agree philgoddard : This is actually ambiguous, because it could mean your appreciation of them. "Peer respect" might work better.

Yes thank you Phil.

encouragement

Dreikurs considered encouragement to be the single most important quality in getting along with others — so important that the lack of it could be considered the basic influence for misbehavior. Dinkmeyer and Losoncy (1996) concurred that encouragement is the key ingredient in all positive professional and personal relationships.

Many experts maintain that receiving emotional encouragement from others in a support group environment decreases one's mental distress and anxiety, as well as enhances one's mood. This in turn boosts the peer group member's immune system and emotional well-being.
