Italian term

sistemi particellari

Italian to English Science Environment & Ecology delta area preservation
"Un processo di semplificazione quest’ultimo che è continuato fino ad oggi con consistenti perdite in termini di biodiversità: tra l’inizio degli anni ‘70 e oggi circa 19.000 ettari si sono trasformati da sistemi colturali e particellari complessi in aree agricole a coltura intensiva." (About the Po Delta area).

No idea. I get "farming systems", but particellari? Am I reading this right as "sistemi di particellari complessi"?

Thanks,

Peter

Discussion

Judith McLean Oct 23, 2012:
I think it refers to areas of land that have been divided into a number of small lots or parcels, so they are complex systems in terms of agriculture as they are used for different things. I've not found an equivalent in English but if I come up with anything I'll post an answer

complex land parceling

Following on from my discussion entry, this could cover it, but it is low-medium confidence for this one.
Peer comment(s):

agree Arabella Fiona Palladino : complex parcelling of land, i.e. many small plots
1 hr
agree Cristina Gonzalez : Yes, agriculture has moved from extensive exploitation (where there were many small plots and many small farmers) to intensive exploitation
