Discussion

Dylan Edwards Nov 19, 2009:
Context would help. "Unique in its own way" is a phrase which is sometimes used carelessly, where the word "unique" on its own would be perfectly adequate.
tschingite Nov 19, 2009:
Именно так, вы правильно уловили смысл "in its own way"
Maria Fokin Nov 19, 2009:
in that case "unique in its own way" may work
Angela Greenfield Nov 19, 2009:
tschingite "this makes us unique in a sense", т.е.
tschingite Nov 19, 2009:
Angela Greenfield Nov 19, 2009:

or perhaps even "puts our channel in a class of its own", depending on context and how emphatic you think the Russian phrase is.
Peer comment(s):

Thank you
agree Olga Cartlidge : "In a class of its own" would be fit in nicely with a sales pitch for a televisoin channel.

Thank you. I think it sounds suitably upbeat. On the other hand, in the light of the comments made (if we take в своем роде in the sense of "in one's own way"), there are other possibilities.
