Russian term

соцсобес

Russian to English Law/Patents Law (general)
I feel I ought to know this; it seems to be quite widely used, for example in "Двенадцать стульев". But I can't find it in any dictionary or abbreviations list

С моей точки зрения, они без труда согласовались со соцсобесом без предъявления или показа официального письма из депертамента. Соцсобес тоже не показал доказательства или очевидность остановки помощи нам, как инвалидам по слуху, состоявшим на учете много лет и проявил дискриминацию против нас, как расизм. Отказ соцсобеса содержать нас...

Thank you for a heartfelt laugh, Angela! :-)
Angela Greenfield May 5, 2010:
if I am not mistaken, it stands for Социалистическое социальное обеспечение in "Двенадцать стульев". I have no clue why anyone would use it nowadays.

welfare aid of socialist society

I think this would be the most complete translation of the Russian term.
There is no analogy in English obviously, so I would translate it to give the most complete description of the Russian term.

I found this source:

http://www.thelocal.de/politics/20100212-25223.html

I do not think it describes the same Public service, but I just thought I will put it here too.
