Вот к чему мы пока пришли: нормативный срок, по нашему мнению, это период, в течение которого, по рассчетам производителя, оборудование должно работать. Поэтому пока все-таки "useful life", несмотря на то, что это не совсем то. Продолжение следует.

I tried "useful life" with my husband (who is a native speaker). He says that useful life is an accounting term, used in depreciation. We'll think of something for you.
