From a ship's maintenance record:

Моточистка выхлопного клапана ГД в ЗИП.

Purge? Flush?

"в ЗИП" appears at the end of many of the items in the list under "Description of work done" ("Ревизия, ремонт выхлопного клапана ГД в ЗИП" etc.), and I would like to have a consistent, succinct way of translating it.

Logically, you don't need to mention use of standard spare parts/tools for any kind of repair unless they are off-standard. So I don't agree. "Ремонт в ЗИП" means the valve is removed and replaced with an unused one and the old valve is overhauled and placed in the spare parts kit.

ГД - main engine, ЗИП = spare parts, tools and equipment, i.e. the overhauling is done using the available spare parts, tools and equipment

They mean that the parts they used for maintenance or overhaul were not custom made, but rather quite standard stuff =)

в ЗИП When they use "в ЗИП" in this way (another example: "Ремонт индикаторных клапанов в ЗИП"), I wonder whether they are referring to a specific area of the ship where the spare parts etc. are stored.

ЗИП (spare parts and accessories) stands for parts, tools for maintenance and related stuff.
In certain contexts may stand for 'maintenance kit' - i.e. 'Комплект ЗИП'
The latter is probably not your case though.

моточистка = очистка отдельных элементов двигателя от твердых отложений,
или здесь будет Exhaust valve (assembly) overhauling / overhaul of exhaust valve
