Russian term

рефрижератор vs. изотермический

Russian to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping
What is the difference between these two types of vehicle? They are listed by a transport company as two different vehicles (and also on Yandex for vehicle manufacturers), but both seem to mean 'refrigerated'. Size does not seem to come into it, as one manufacturer uses 'izotermichesky' for vehicles ranging from 2 tons to 25 tons. Multitran gives 'refrigerated' for both of them.

refrigerated vs. insulated

The above explanation is dead on, but these are two seperate words with different meanings.
First link shows refrigerator trucks (note refrigeration element)

This one shows insulated trucks.

I am assuming that the refrigerated trucks would be used for longer distance travel.

beloq

isothermica has no ANY refrigerating plant. it is simply thermally isolated waggon

refrigerating wehicle has an active refrigerating unit to reduce and/ or to keep constant temperature during transportation.

isothermic wehicle keeps the temperature of the goods loaded into it. Inevitably the temperature rises but it is still enough for transportation purposes. also isothermic can be used to keep positive temperature e.g. when sending fruits to siberia in winter. refrigerating unit usually only freezes.
