French term

ouvrage de synthèse (monographie)

French to English Art/Literary Education / Pedagogy academic
This is a title on a list of publications, the first of which was an "ouvrage de recherche". As I see it, the first entry was a research monograph, the second entry is an exegetic text (it appears to be an overview of Anne Banfield's work). I can't think of similar distinctions being made in an English context. Any ideas?

monograph

in this case I think I would simply call it a monograph and I would call the ouvrage de recherche a 'research book' or a 'research-based book' (ouvrage generally means a book for academics.

Thank you, I agree, I had opted for monograph then I wondered if there might not be something else. Thank you!

Note from asker:
Thanks for this, I'm not quite happy that it is idiomatic though (the second example seems to be noun = verb?) I think I'll stick with just "monograph".
