Erstatning can be translated several ways depending on the legal context. In a plain, no-nonsense contract, chances are good that the word is damages. Other words, depending on the legal context: compensation/indemnity/liability/claims paid. If outside of contract, the word would be non-contractual damages or danages in tort.
