mint sign While I am not going to disagree with Jill's translation (because it is essentially right), the "mint sign" (or more common "mint mark") is the stamp of the Mint (клеймо монетного двора в старину, а сегодня - печать или значок на монетах или купюрах, указывающие на то, где печатались деньги). The mint sign allows you to identify the origin of the coin, and in your case the "mint sign" indicates who the hoof print belongs to, i.e. that there is a pig around. I don't believe that in this particular case there is any indication of "freshness". IMHO
