French term

chose durée

French to English Law/Patents Insurance
Taken from the Exclusions section of an insurance policy (I'm not sure exactly which type of insurance, as the first pages of the document are helpfully missing). Discussing machinery:

"L'usure de quelque origine que ce soit. Cette exclusion se limite à LA CHOSE DUREE, les effets de l'usure anormale ou accidentelle restant garantis."

I can't decide whether there is a mistake here or what...

True I love translation challenges, no doubt...lol

Or even "chose d'une durée de vie normale"? LOL
Travelin Ann Feb 6, 2010:
@Matthew But, then we would not have so much fun ;)
MatthewLaSon Feb 6, 2010:
Comment It would have been much clearer if they had said "la chose normalement usée exclue de toute garantie..."
rkillings Jan 29, 2010:
the thing worn and torn Normal wear and tear is excluded, but only for this.
Richard Nice Jan 27, 2010:
That's got to be it. Boilerplate phrase? --> (objects subject to) normal wear and tear?

the normal life of the goods

This might make sense as an exclusion.
Otherwise, I haven't come across it
Peer comment(s):

agree MatthewLaSon : I'm still wondering, though, if there wasn't a mistake in the French (durée de vie normale). Good guess, I must say to you.
