Discussion

David Williams (asker) Jan 16, 2008:
= Grobvorschub GrobVor bezieht auf Grobvorschub (schnelle Annäherung des zu schneidenden Gewebeobjekts an das Mikrotommesser). Im Englischen bezeichnen wir diese Funktion mit Front Coarse Feed.
Obviously, that "front" should be forward :-)
Jonathan MacKerron Jan 16, 2008:
forward thrust?
David Williams (asker) Jan 16, 2008:
Mea culpa Sorry, I incorrectly assumed which customer it was for, having not been told. It isn't for a helicopter, but we don't know what type of device it is for.
David Williams (asker) Jan 16, 2008:
Proviso Given that this is part of a list of words re. helicopter controls, so Fast-forward, the meaning that naturally springs to mind, may or may not be appropriate.

Rapid Feed Button

That's what our machine shop calls this function.

Could also use "fast feed" or "coarse feed".

The direction is implied, so you don't need the word "forward." If you're moving backwards you're retracting, not feeding.
Peer comment(s):

agree hazmatgerman (X) : I'd go with "coarse", as "grob" is exactly that not "fast".
