German term

Einspülvorrichtung

German to English Tech/Engineering Agriculture Sprayer
Unfortunately, this word doesn't appear in a sentence. It's just a caption to a picture of a sprayer (such as that used to spray fruit in orchards). From what I can gather by looking at the picture, it seems to be a sort of pipe leading into (or out of) the main works of the sprayer.

The only translation I have found for "Einspülvorrichtung" has been "dispensing device" in various patent applications. Not convinced by that at all. Is it maybe a feeder of some kind? TIA for your help.

Discussion

Rowan Morrell (asker) Aug 7, 2010:
Inlet funnel? I wonder whether this is actually the same as an "Einspülpilz" - http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/agriculture/1254... - in which case perhaps "inlet funnel" might be the way to go. But "induction hopper" doesn't sound bad either.

The example of crop sprayers: In some cases, crop sprayers are equipped with an induction hopper which substantially facilitates the making-up and filling process.
Although not specifically required by EN 907, the use of an induction hopper is a step in the right direction for the reduction of possible hazards arising from incorrect behaviour during making-up, mixing and cleaning."

"Induction hoppers will enable the sprayer to be loaded with chemical by an operator standing on the ground. They are widely available for use with all designs of sprayer. All new sprayers should incorporate an induction hopper. Hoppers are also available from specialist companies and can be retrofitted to most sprayer designs. There needs to be a good working clearance around the opening of the hopper; this opening must be large enough so that there is minimum risk of spillage or splashing. Ensure that the induction hopper on your sprayer complies with British Standard BS 6356: Part 8: 1996; this will provide further advantages in terms of the speed of loading and ease of cleaning of both the hopper and used containers."

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "After a bit more research, it does indeed look like this is an induction hopper, so into the KudoZ glossary it goes as such. Many thanks FX and peer graders. Appreciate everyone's help."
