KFZ-Klempner

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
from a CV

... and while you are at it, how does this differ from a KFZ-Schlosser (if at all)?

Thank you!

And that came directly from one who WAS one, many years ago, in Opel-Dürkop in Braunschweig. Hope that helps, Allesklar!

Hi MMax, thanks for your answer, this is interesting. I would have guessed that a KFZ-Klempner deals with fuel, coolant and brake lines in a car and I was leaning towards translating it with "fitter".

auto(motive)body repairer

This is the most common of what my complex search entry returned. Before that I assumed KFZ-Klempner and Schlosser did about the same but indications are Klempner is more involved with (sheet)metal work. KFZ-Schlosser is an auto mechanic then.
Berufsbezeichnungen nach Duden:
Klempner - Handwerker, der Gegenstände aus Metall, bes. aus Blech bearbeitet od. herstellt
Schlosser - Handwerker u. Facharbeiter, der Metall u. Kunststoff verarbeitet, bestimmte Gegenstände, Teile daraus herstellt bzw. formt u. montiert
Autoschlosser=Automechaniker - Mechaniker in einer Kfz-Werkstatt
Mechaniker - Handwerker od. Facharbeiter, der Maschinen, technische Geräte o.Ä. zusammenbaut, prüft, instand hält u. repariert

agree swisstell : a Klempner is, normally, a plumber but of course not in connection with vehicles
