Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jun 27, 2004:
I think I understand that = makes sense but then I think we might say "2 x 5 axis . . ." like we say 4-wheel drive, even if there are 4 wheels . . . (or 3-point turn etc.) - what do you think?
Non-ProZ.com Jun 27, 2004:
Hi Kim! you sure about "axes" and not "axles" (I guess you are, I'm the layman!)

When secondary edge details are required or when the profile must be machined for aesthetic reasons, we provide full CNC profile milling of your parts. Accurate and repeatable profile dimensions simplify the setup and fixturing of additional machining operations and also reduce tool and equipment wear.

Hi Rob, I\'m sure one of our engineers could do a better job explaining it than I can, but here\'s a stab at it. Some tools, like a radial-arm saw, can be adjusted to operate at different angles. These are the axes (plural of axis). Horizontal, vertical, diagonal, etc. axes.

Not too many hits for either 2x5 axes or 2x5 axis as an adjective, but \"axes\" is used at an Italian and French site and \"axis\" at this UK site.
2x5 Axis facility available with machining possible to high tolerances.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "super, Kim, put me on the right track (I'd been wondering where the axles came in!) Your quote ("with 2x5 axes") is correct in that context, it's just that "we" Brits. leave the noun uninflected when it's an adjective: a 3-point turn covers 3 points, a 4-wheel vehicle has 4 wheels, and so on."
