German term

Ambossrechen

German to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Welding systems
Context:

"Auf dem Rahmen sind 2 pneumatische Ambossrechen jeweils mit 11 Platten montiert,"

This is about a welding system for a packet packaging machine. I can't find any references to a welding table + anvil, pneumativ anvil * or anything that seems relevant, other than one ref. that seems only to exist in German.

Discussion

PhilippID Sep 25, 2009:
I think you're right actually, the term seems rare enough to justify a creative translation (as per Sue Maatz)
Sue Maatz Sep 25, 2009:
Yeah, it's hard to tell from your picture, just which part they mean. Since the one picture has two welding horns in it, I assumed that's what they meant. Google research shows that they are obviously the only ones using the term Ambossrechen anyway...
David Williams (asker) Sep 25, 2009:
Thanks, but I get the impression that this is a special type of "Support tooling" as referred to below the section about the welding horn in that article. It certainly seems to me as if this object supports the the components during the welding operation.
Sue Maatz Sep 25, 2009:
Maybe this will help... Found this schematic here
http://www.twi.co.uk/content/jk61.html
according to which it could be the welding horn

The part further down, the welding horn, looks a lot like those in the picture of your source text
David Williams (asker) Sep 25, 2009:
1st draft There also appears to be a verb missing in the second clause:

"die der Reihe nach als Stützen unter den Elektroden oder Schweißunterlagen zwischen den zu schweißenden Streifen."

Proposed translation:

On the frame there are 2 pneumatic anvil rakes, each with 11 plates, which ?act? as supports under the electrodes or as backing bar between the strips being welded.

anvil rack

This seems to be the appropriate term for packaging.
