stone cases
A Koecherfliege is a caddisfly in German, and these insects of the order Trichoptera are all aquatic as larvae, and many species build cases of stones, small pebbles, small pieces of twigs, or leaves, which they glue together with silk. The adults resemble moths and have hairs instead of colored scales on their wings, hence the name Trichoptera, "hairy wing." They are common in clean, fresh water ecosystems everywhere and are important food for trout and other game fish.

Essentially guesswork! Stone is no problem - a köcher is either a quiver (arrows!) or a case (binoculars etc.). A natural stone formation for living in!

I guess you are talking about caddis flies. They build and carry around cases and attach these cases to cobbles in riffles.
