German term
Int. Cl.
German to English
Law/Patents
On the German form for a European patent application on the top of the form (numbered with an encircled 51) and followed by a reference number of the type G01K 5/50. I would have thought "International Classification", but this is a through and through German text with no other English titles. Can anybody shed light on the meaning of this abbreviation?

International Classification or Int. Cl.
Your hunch is correct. It stands for 'international classification'. Most (all?) DE and EP patents use 'Int.Cl.' with a superscript, while WO/PCT patents seem to favour the expression 'Internationale Patentklassifikation', again followed by a superscript and the field code.
