German term

Zugschwell- und Zugwechselbereich

German to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping Rolling Stock
Normalspannungen im Zugschwell- und Zugwechselbereich mit (equation).

This is for a chart. The heading is Betriebslastfälle. What I printed above is the subheading. I've translated Betriebslastfälle as 'Operation Loads.' It follows information about welded seams and notch cases (Schweißnähte, Kerbfall).

Here I believe Spannung would translate as 'stress' and not 'voltage.'

Discussion

palilula (X) Dec 21, 2008:
Stress And Strain Here is what additional definition I found: There are three main types of stress. If we stretch or compress an object, we are subjecting it to a tensile stress. If an object is subjected to a force along an entire surface, changing its volume, then it is said to be experiencing a bulk stress. Finally, if the force is acting tangentially to the surface, causing it to twist, then we are subjecting it to a shear stress.

My offering; based on Ernst for the "Zugschwellbereich), which is positive but pulsates, while the "-wechsel" alternates between positive and negative.

BTW, I would suggest "operating stresses" rather than "operation loads", but there's no strong feeling about it.
