Could it be referring to newspapers like British Sunday papers which are made up of different sections, each of which is physically separate from the other - eg the finance section, the sports section, the lifestyle section - instead of being in one big unwieldy journal ?

agree KayW : I agree. The "dorso" of a newspaper the fold, if you have more than one, you have separate sections.
