German term

Leihanfrage

HR people in a German company will learn how to use a new electronic personnel file system. I can't find anything online about Leihanfragen and there's nothing else in my doc that would clarify. Help appreciated.

Discussion

Helen Shiner Jun 23, 2009:
Kim yes, via a document server presumably.
Kim Metzger (asker) Jun 23, 2009:
A request for data?
Kim Metzger (asker) Jun 23, 2009:
Helen Maybe a request from another company in the group of companies, for example?
Helen Shiner Jun 23, 2009:
Hi Kim I think this is a 'loan request' presumably from some other body holding documents - familiar to me from inter-library loans, document requests from the British Library document centre, etc.

loan request

This would be the sort of thing, but presumably within the company rather than a library. Perhaps from a company archive or just documents lodged in the company system.

You could also just simplify it to 'document request' perhaps for clarity's sake.

Thanks, Kim - probably the safest way forward in the end.

agree Bernd Runge : or lending request

Thanks, Bernd, though loan request is the normal term.
agree Erich Friese : ....what about 'outsource request".....just a thought....!

Thanks, Erich - that might infer something else! I guess document request or possibly data request makes it clearest.
agree Bernhard Sulzer : personnel (file) loan request // personnel file(s) loan request or "document loan request" ; IMO "loan" is important because it defines a temporary availability of the data. One of these days, I'll have to put my pic up too. Nice to see you, Helen.

Thanks, Bernhard - I think you are right about the loan - so my preference would be document loan request. Document can cover all manner of evils. I'm not sure about the pics really, but if people have to look at me, they should see you, too!!
agree Denise Dewey-Muno : I agree with 'loan request'. You could add 'document', but I'd perhaps leave this out unless you're absolutely sure it is documents being loaned.

Thanks, Denise - I think we'll have to let Kim decide which best fits his context. It might be an array of things that are available for loan.
agree hazmatgerman (X) : Nach Metzgers Antwort an Runge eindeutig.

Well, I think, we are talking about data (remember e-file) and not documents. Imho, this is a request to search through external personal files of a subsidiary, etc.
Note from asker:
Bernd - "lending request" is actually the term used in another document from my company that I just now discovered - red face. I am to use that doc only for reference purposes. And I don't think I'll use it. Document request looks good.
