This is in a discharge summary for a diabetic patient with non-insulin dependent diabetes (the report says "DMNID").
The text says "...hyperglycemia que ha precisado control mediante insulina sbc" and later "Insulina sbc según protocolo diabético" in the discharge instructions.
I only find this 'sbc' abbreviation once in a Spanish reference in Google: "Fácil control sin insulina (N=103), fácil control con insulina sbc (N=13), difícil control con bomba de insulina (N=9) e hipoglucemias (N=5)."
What is this "sbc" please, and how do we say it in English?

There are more refs to the abbreviation sbc in English, so another possibility would be to leave it as is, but I personally would change it to "sc"

subcutaneous insulin (SQ insulin/insulin SQ)
Regular "insulin shots", as opposed to an insulin pump. Technically, pumps provide insulin subcutaneously as well, but it's a convenient way of distinguishing one from the other.

Another set of inconsistently used abbreviations are used to indicate "subcutaneous." The abbreviation "SC," can be mistaken for "SL" (ie, sublingual) and "SQ," can be mistaken as "5 every." Clinicians should write sub-Q, subQ, or subcutaneous instead, also in the translation field this abbreviation must be use.

Dear Joseph, further ahead to play the points issue, get in to all the AORN journal, SNOMED CT and several other medical databases, articles and some other authorities regarding medical terminology, I think it must be really necessary to reassess, some day, how professional the medical translation can be, I´ve seen several and diverse works very good and others far away actualized.
I recommend you to get access to the last publications of AORN regarding this issue as well as the best data base around the globe SNOMED.
