español term

¿Cómo nos salen las cuentas...?

español al inglés Otros General / Conversación / Saludos / Cartas
This phrase is tripping me up. It's in a short statement from Spain's Secretary of Innovation

"...innovar es convertir conocimiento en dinero, toda vez que la investigación ha convertido el dinero en conocimiento. ¿Cómo nos salen las cuentas en este circuito en España? ¿Es cerrado o abierto?"

I believe the "circuito" being referred to is the cycle from money to knowledge to money.

How are we making out

¿Cómo nos salen las cuentas en este circuito en España?
How are we making out in this process in Spain?
"Making out" in the sense of making $$$, of course, a common expression, at least where I come from.

Gracias, Muriel.
neutral Simon Bruni : Never heard this expression in Europe but then the asker hasn't said which target variant is needed

If it's for USA it would work, and of course knowing the destination would be helpful
neutral Lisa McCarthy : Not familiar with this term either. And 'making out' reminds me of another usage :)

We have the other usage here also.
neutral Noni Gilbert Riley : With Lisa!! Made me chuckle!

However, there would be no room for confusion.

Is our income from this loop breaking even with our investment, in Spain?

I put "loop" so you can then write "Is the loop closed or open?" -- I think they want to know whether the income generated within the loop is breaking even with the money invested, i.e. whether the loop is "working".

How are we doing in this respect/regard (here in Spain)?

Another option, sounds like a rhetorical question he/she is posing to herself.
