sorry, it turns out the soldier in question is actually alive. something like opiekunka(-wolontariuszka), but she's not there fixing bandages only kind of like a penpal

I don't think there is much to say about it. It's true it does not have many Google hits but the one describes a situation of Polish soldiers (alive) in France.
