Spanish term

Comisario

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Comisario- Certificado de antecedentes penales
Hola, estimados.

Para muestra, un botón In that snapshot of US culture that is The Simpsons, Clancy Wiggum is the chief of police. The Commissioner would be his superior and a more political appointment.

Yes. Shouldn't say this, but I think you could use a number of options without anyone objecting.

Example sentence:

The police Commissioner offered an interview to the media explaining the reasons.

Peer comment(s):

neutral James A. Walsh : Agree with your explanation, but in reality, as an English (UK) speaker, I understand "Chief of Pilice" quicker than "Commissioner", which strikes me as an "EU English" term, frankly. I just wouldn't use it unless referring to the EU...

agree neilmac : There may be situations/locations where the Commissioner is senior to the "Chief"... (Commissioner Gordon from Batman springs to mind).

Head of Police Precinct

Hope it helps!
