Hi everyone, this is in an excipients validation protocol for a pharmaceutical from the mid-90s.
El residuo es soluble en reactivo de Schweizer (óxido cúprico de amonio: disolver 5 g de sulfato cúprico en 100 ml de agua hirviendo y adicionar hidróxido sódico hasta que la precipitación sea completa.
Lavar bien el precipitado y disolver en una cantidad mínima de hidróxido de amonio)
I'm familiar with cupric oxide/copper oxide, but I'm not sure how to incorporate the ammonium part into the name? My searches aren't coming up with anything. Thanks in advance!

I admit that it is the first time I see this compound written in such a way in Spanish, and therefore it is somehow difficult to match it with a term I have handled in the past regarding this salt.
However, there is a term which would somehow match the description given, and it's the one provided in this answer. Find attached an example of its use in a published scientific paper for the treatment of cellulose, and also a database page where the compound is described as such and matches the structure of the compound.

Saying "The residue is soluble in Schweizer's reagent (copper (II) oxide (is) dissolved in ammonia: dissolve 5 g of copper sulphate in 100 mL of boiling water and add sodium hydroxide until precipitation is complete." sounds too awkward for me. Your contribution is much appreciated regardless and will hopefully help someone in the future who has a different context! |

: I think this is probably the best option, the one I've given, althoug offical, is very rarely used. "copper (II) oxide dissolved in ammonia"
