Spanish term

muerto

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Ships, Sailing, Maritime Maritime
From a project document from Spain for translation to British English.
Related to mooring of recreational boats in a bay off a beach in Andalusia.

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondeo_con_boya_y_muerto

From my document for translation:

Discussion

"muerto"... In this case I think you should use a translation technique to "explain" the term in the source language text, as there is no literal translation for this specific word used in the maritime and nautical industry.

DEAD WEIGHT ANCHOR
A Dead Weight anchor is generally any object with a large weight
that relies soley on its weight to anchor the floating boom or
curtain. Due to the necessary weight that these anchors must be,
they are often used for more permanent installations as they need
to be deployed and retrieved with a crane or other mechanical
device.

Mooring buoys with anchor and chains...

See RYA page. Anchor doesn't always mean the thing you see on tattoos.
