Spanish term
asunción de los servicios

Law: Contract(s)
Hello all,
I'm translating a partnership agreement between a Spanish university and a religious order that esetablishes the terms under which a new masters in religious studies will be formed. I have encountered a sentence whose meaning in the original Spanish is very unclear to me. Here is the full clause in the contract:
"Cada parte deberá designar, gestionar y proporcionar por su cuenta y cargo los medios personales tanto docentes como administrativos y de apoyo técnico precisos para la impartición de las materias y seguimiento de los estudiantes, así como la asunción de los servicios que sean de su respectiva competencia, de acuerdo a la Memoria recogida en el Anexo l."
The line "así como la asunción de los servicios que sean de su respectiva competencia" is giving me a lot of trouble. I'm not sure what the "assumption of services" would mean. Is servicio here being used in the sense of staff? Am I missing a sense of "asunción" that would make this make sense?
Here is my attempt, but I have a feeling that it will need to be restructured once I get clarification on the meaning of that phrase:
"Each party must designate, manage, and provide at its own expense the teaching, administrative, and technical support personnel necessary for the teaching of courses and monitoring of students, as well as the assumption of the services that are their respective responsibility, in accordance with the Report included in Annex I."
Thank you for your time!
Nick

As Allegro says, you just have to find a synonym of 'assume'. One possibility is 'provide'.
'Each party will, at its own expense, appoint, supply and manage the teaching, administrative, and technical staff required to teach courses and support students, and provide the services that are its responsibility under the agreement included in Annex I.'
'Its responsibility', because 'su' refers to the party rather than the employee.
Don't be afraid to cut out verbiage - for example 'required to teach' instead of 'necessary for the teaching of', and 'and' instead of 'as well as'.

assuming (arrangement) of such services as...
'..así como la asunción de los servicios que sean de su respectiva competencia...' - as well as the assuming (arrangement) of such services as are within ther respective remit (purview)...'.
I doubt the parties will personally provide such services, rather will arrange for and 'underwrite' the delivery of such.
Adoption often works, but not here.
I agree with Wilsonn's literal rendering as assumption, though 'assuming' - as a present participle or gerundive - would be more 'natural' in the Queen's or King's English.

Example sentence:
IATE: es asunción por el Estado COM en underwriting by the State
service arrangement means an arrangement with a Service Provider in whole or in part for the supply of a Service or Services to a Facility or Facilities.

: C'mon, agree with someone else, just for once! It doesn't hurt as much as you think. It can even give you a pleasantly warm fuzzy feeling
