I know :( ....but after payment we are all :)
B D Finch Oct 29, 2011:
Glossary I don't want to scare you Darko, but it does not seem to be a very useful glossary if it suggests such an awkward phrase.
Stephanie Ezrol Oct 29, 2011:
Man is frequently used as a short version of mankind in English, meaning the entire human race not males as opposed to females. According tothe The Chambers etymological dictionary says that man meant human being in old english before it meant male and it is cognate with Dutch, German, old Icelandic, Swedish and Danish.

Today there is some avoidance of using man to be mean human being because it seems to exclude or denigrate women.
Darko Kolega (asker) Oct 29, 2011:
man is prob. fromGerman

das macht man > that makes man????
Darko Kolega (asker) Oct 29, 2011:
why are you overreacting you scared me :(

I have glossary and this is a sentence from it - well it makes no sense to write anything before and after as it is alphab.listed (even as sentences)

it is about exposures and adverse effects of chemicals
Jenni Lukac (X) Oct 29, 2011:
Cheers, Darko. A bit more context would help us come up with a better answer.
B D Finch Oct 29, 2011:
Context Though I think this is straightforward, it is impossible to be sure without a bit more context: the sentence preceding the one quoted, in particular.

Note from asker:

Peer comment(s):

agree B D Finch : What it seems to mean, though the sentence before would allow certainty.

makes a man concerned about..

Makes a man concerned about possible carcinogenic effects.
Peer comment(s):

disagree B D Finch : Which man? Makes no sense.// The Asker was, I am sure, not simply looking for a subjective understanding, but an understanding based upon correct English usage. It is incorrect to use "a man" as an abstract term.

U R welcome....Mr. Darko placed a question 'how you understand it'..and this is how I understood, any way thanks.
agree ErichEko ⟹⭐ : makes any man...

Thanks Mr.Erich...for understanding.
disagree Tina Vonhof (X) : And what about women? The answer should not be "how you understand it" but should give the correct interpretation..

European Union classification of carcinogens

European Union
The European Union classification of carcinogens is contained in the Dangerous Substances Directive and the Dangerous Preparations Directive. It consists of three categories:

Category 1: Substances known to be carcinogenic to humans.
Category 2: Substances which should be regarded as if they are carcinogenic to humans.
Category 3: Substances which cause concern for humans, owing to possible carcinogenic effects but in respect of which the available information is not adequate for making a satisfactory assessment.
This assessment scheme is being phased out in favor of the GHS scheme (see above), to which it is very close in category definitions.
