From a Parent's Guide Book:
=========================
You have clearly and calmly asked your kids to pick up their toys and to get ready for bed. It's obvious that they heard you, but they continue to play. Again, with more force and anger in your voice, you state what it is you expect. Once again, no response.
Finally, red faced (trotting in their direction looking something like Edith Bunker) and at the top of your lungs, you repeat your demand that they clean up and get ready for bed. Low and behold, this time they obey. Once again, you are left feeling angry frustrated, and absolutely convinced that it was your anger and frustration that finally motivated them to do what you wanted.
============================
I found that Edith Bunker is a friendly character in a TV show. But what the point to mention in this article? What kind of pose or attitude of Edith Bunker referred to?

Edith Bunker is the wife of Archie Bunker on the old (70s) American sitcom "All in the Family." She is a traditional housewife--eager to please everyone and incapable of being assertive. Because she's a bit of a doormat, she tries to get people to do things in her own timid way, but when that fails, she sometimes ends up blowing up (instead of dealing with the problem in a calm, assertive way). That's probably one point the article is referring to. The other is that she has a terrible screechy voice, so if the frustrated parent is yelling in her voice, it probably sounds pretty bad.

: "Edith was most known for her shrill voice (her trademark "Oh, Aaaaaaaaaah-chie!" became very popular among viewers) and her flighty demeanor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Bunker

: there is a typo in the source text: should be "lo and behold" - but yes, that woman's voice was sometimes enough to make me turn off the TV ;-)
