Egil Presttun Oct 24, 2010:
Some (or all) functions are disabled A lock is put on the ability to create share and library mappings. It means that some functions are disabled. As long as the functions are disabled, the user doesn't have access to those functions.

to lock down the ability13:11 So, is it disable or just limit the access ?
Egil Presttun Oct 24, 2010:
to lock down the ability To put a lock on the ability (so that the ability is partly or fully disabled).
GILLES MEUNIER (asker) Oct 24, 2010:
Experts Well, I don't think it's an expression specific to software. Anyway, It's not a simple negation so for the time being, I'm going to translate as if it were a limited access....

That's my (non-expert) reading, ... ...Gilles, but you'd better wait and see if the experts agree or not!
GILLES MEUNIER (asker) Oct 24, 2010:
accès Ah OK, to limit access then ?
Tony M Oct 24, 2010:
No, Gilles, I don't think so I'm not familiar with this specific term in this context, but from a purely linguistic POV, I'd have thought it meant confine or restrict the authorization (to create, share, or library) to a specific set of people, for example.

So you could perhaps say that it means "if you don't want certain people to be allowed to create".

This would be consistent with what follows, the fact that the Target has access to a restricted list of sources.

Some of this language dos seem a little odd at times; is this just computer-geek-speak, or is it possible it was written by a non-native EN speaker?

to lock down the ability Does it mean 'if you don't want to create.... ?

agree Egil Presttun : Temporarily? Well, yes, until the ability to create share and library mappings is enabled again - if it ever is.
