English term

sideways displacement

English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial
The context is
"The relief valve knob may be locked by using a locking ring with a sideways displacement."
What does "sideways displacement" mean in this case?
Is the knob placed at horizontal direction?

Could someone explain in another word please?
Thank you in advance.

to lock the valve you have to move the locking ring lateraly

To lock the valve you have to move the locking ring lateraly that is horizontally.

From your text, it apeears that it is the locking ring that is moved horizontally. It probably clicks into position over the knob and prevents the knob from being operated.

Thanks.
agree Ken Cox : In this case, 'displacement' is just engineering language for movement from one position to another one.
