English term

comfortably in the future

English Other Environment & Ecology
Dangers (global warming, for example) that seemed exaggerated or [[comfortably in the future]] two decades ago are now understood to be real and urgent.

By "comfortably in the future" I interpret that as we, the human race, thought these dangers wouldn't pose difficulties to us, we did nothing about it. "Comfortably" seems to refer to our attitude. Like saying it's not our problem but a problem to be solved by generations in the far future.

Help welcomed!

remote

yes, comfortably refers to attitudes - that people consider it to be so far off/so far into the future that it's not something that they need to feel even slightly "uncomfortable" about. It's not that people didn't think that they would pose difficulties or that future generations would solve the problem, but that they would not pose a problem for many generations to come...and since then....
