English term

leading indicators are rolling over

English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
From a fund report: "Asian exports are exceptionally strong, but OECD leading indicators are rolling over and certain data streams out of America indicate consumer indigestion".
How do you interpret "rolling over" in this context? That the indicators are starting to point in a new direction?

See ref, and my 'disagree'. I think they are weakening, not yet reversing. IN some OECD economies, the indicators are down a bit, but in others, they are up, but less than previously. They may indicate a reverse later this year.
Peer comment(s):

agree Craft.Content : "rolling over" in the context would mean, despite the strength of the Asian exports, OECD and US indicators point to the contrary direction.

Yes, you are right, but worth noting that while Asian exports are strong, the OECD indicators (which includes US) have only decreased by fractions of a point., so it's only just in the contrary direction. Hence rolling over - pretty well flat.

Thanks for that generous comment. I too have occasionally sent my replies into oblivion, for the same reason. In this business we are always living and learning.

neutral chica nueva : strange term. I just think of the arrival times board at the airport 'rolling over'- perhaps it means in a state of flux?
