Never mind what the Canadians want--give'em litres! Gallons are not the same in US as in UK; so why be ambiguous? Besides, if we want to drag the US kicking and screaming into the 19th century with their units, we could start on their neighbours!

agree DGK T-I : actually, Canadians appear to use the spelling 'litres' very widely (and liters too, doubtless out of an affection for diversity:-) Canada went metric in 1970 (see refs in the notes to asker box) and apparently petrol is sold in litres,for example ~
