English term

flipping at the mouth

English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
If my daughter did something that I think I ought to jack up for, I won’t spank her. She’s sixteen years old. But if I say, “Come home. You have to be home at eleven o’clock.” And she’s not home at eleven o’clock and she comes in and starts flipping at the mouth, I’m not gonna get a belt and spank her. I might jack up against the wall, though, believe me.

Do you just want a synonym in English or do you need a translation into another language?

swearing or talking back

not common - flipping someone off actually means giving them the finger (middle)

we say "giving me lip" too - although the younger people don't use it as much
agree Elena Petelos : Hello Rita! 30° C (86° F) in London today!!! :-)))))

hello elena :-)
agree Can Altinbay : Originally the finger, but looks like we gave it another application. Hi, Cilian, that's used, but not in this tone. I like Rafaela's comment - it seems a tranlsation of the whoe paragraph into English might be in order. :)

I raised 2 sons and yapping is just flapping at the mouth - flipping at a parent about coming home late - something which may result in punishment - is not yapping
