English term

consideration on/over

English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
consideration on/over the use of the method

When you put that in Google, the results show that it's some Polish invention (out of necessity). Or perhaps sounds native? Meaning "deliberations on".

Discussion

Stephanie Ezrol Jun 22, 2010:
Discussion, in that context, is more appropriate than deliberation.
literary (asker) Jun 22, 2010:
More exactly: it's a separate sentence. "Discussion on the use of Xmetry indicated that the method was simple and fast." Discussion which is contained in the full text of the thesis.
literary (asker) Jun 22, 2010:
A scientific tone. A student summarizes his master thesis. "Chapter 2 contains discussion on the use of the methods..." etc.
Stephanie Ezrol Jun 22, 2010:
Discussion is fine. Deliberation means a discussion aimed at a finding an answer or a solution. It thus implies a more tasked oriented discussion. But it really depends on the tone of the text as well as the meaning. If you want to post a few more sentences that might help in getting a more definitive answer.
literary (asker) Jun 22, 2010:
Polish dictionaries also propose "discussion"
Stephanie Ezrol Jun 21, 2010:
Deliberations is still actively used in English to convey the idea of a discussion or a meeting where idea's are hashed out - discussed out - considered and debated. To my ear considerations is a more passive term, for example, we took into accounts all considerations. So there is, in my opinion, a not insignificant difference of meaning between considerations and deliberations. If your text about people discussing the proper method to use, then I think deliberations is a better choice.
literary (asker) Jun 21, 2010:
I can write "deliberations on", it just sounds archaic, old-fashioned.
literary (asker) Jun 21, 2010:
The Polish verb is "rozważać" = "to consider" (literally "to weigh")

"rozważania" is the plural noun from that verb
Sheila Wilson Jun 21, 2010:
With or without the "s"? We really need a sentence here, but if you use considerations (plural) then you could indeed follow this with "over", but it would normally be "security considerations", "tactical considerations", "technological considerations" etc.
literary (asker) Jun 21, 2010:
"considerations over the use" looks OK in Google

consideration of

Neither of your suggestions work with "consideration". It would help if we had a longer sentence to go on, but as a general rule, consideration goes with "of": e.g. after some consideration of the matter, they decided....

Hope this helps

Sorry, I've just realised you've given us a little more: in that case, you could leave out the "use" as that would mean to many "of": after some consideration of the method, or after considering the way the method is used.... hard to say without any more information.

Should read "too many "of", of course; over really doesn't work.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The best answer! Gerund is awkward. "Considerations" mean sth else. From a web page: "Reflection shows thorough and thoughtful consideration of using this tool in a classroom setting.""

considering the use of the method

Without more context, and going on your 'deliberations' hint, you might try just the gerund form of the verb 'consider'.

I agree with the others that on/over do not go with 'consideration'.
Peer comment(s):

agree Alexandra Taggart : could be "ruminating over/on"
