English term

n integer

English Tech/Engineering Mathematics & Statistics calculator
"We can simplify this expression even further by using Euler's formula for complex numbers, namely, e2inπ = cos(2nπ) + i•sin(2nπ) = 1 + i•0 = 1, since cos(2nπ) = 1, and sin(2nπ) = 0, ***for n integer***."

...does it mean 1) "for a number "n" of integers" [for a given number of integers], 2) "for n which must be an integer", 3) for the number n, which is an integer", 4) or what?

thanks!

Discussion

Richard Benham Jun 14, 2006:
There is no problem with "for n integer", but the mathematical notation is not rendering properly. It doesn't matter in this case, as the meaning is clear enough, but in general it might be better to post say a PDF file to your webspace and link to it.
Roddy Stegemann Jun 14, 2006:
Is there not a typo here. What I can imagine are the following: "for n integers", "for the nth integer", or "for integer n", but not "for n integer". It simply does not make sense. Also, I find it very difficult to read your mathematical notation.
