Discussion

mediamatrix (X) Feb 2, 2010:
But ... ... the all-important 'context' is in the video, not in the weblink or in your non-question.
Egil Presttun (asker) Feb 2, 2010:
Seeing the video is not required to post an answer I understand what you mean, mediamatrix, and the video is not long. I just wanted to tell everybody here that spending time on seeing through the video is not required in order to post an answer, as the term is mentioned on the page.
mediamatrix (X) Feb 2, 2010:
@Asker: "you don't need to see through the video" Perhaps not - but if you did 'see through the video' it would be fairly obvious what the term refers to. 'A picture tells a thousand words', they say - and here you've got a whole sequence of pictures telling you millions of words about the term.
Egil Presttun (asker) Feb 2, 2010:
The term is mentioned two times on the page Please note that you don't need to see through the video. The term is mentioned two times on the page. I'm not sure of the exact meaning of the term. Does it simply mean a video with several short movie clips?
mediamatrix (X) Feb 2, 2010:
If ... ... you want to know about 'movie reel' I suggest you post that as a separate Kudoz (only one term allowed per question).
Egil Presttun (asker) Feb 2, 2010:
How would you define the term? How would you define the term "filmmaker reel"? If it's hard to define, you may discuss/explain the difference between "movie reel" and "filmmaker reel".
mediamatrix (X) Feb 2, 2010:
What is your question? To understand what a 'filmmaker reel' is it's surely sufficient to watch the video.

like a portfolio of work as a filmmaker

From your context I think that is what the term means. The person who has posted the video is a "Filmmaker" who has worked in various capacities in making fillms.

The reel refers to the video. Reel is a term that goes back to reel to reel audio tapes, or film on a reel.

The reel is a rotary device that the film is wound around. The film itself can be also be called a reel as in motion picture reel.

I am calling it a portfolio because of the following:

Its basically a compilation of the various short films i worked on in various capacity e.g Director, Assistant director, Visual effect artist, Editing etc

Thanks.
agree Tony M : We used to produce 'video portfolos' for actors, for example; clearly, this one is for a film-maker, what we used to call a 'showreel' (which I think is how the term 'reel' creeps in)
